presentation evaluation

on monday the 15th of june i gave a presentation detailing my three main Studio 1 projects. they are; robodance, heartbeat interface and urban spin.

for the presentation i compiled a portfolio for the two earlier assignments (rododance and heartbeat interface) and displayed my stethoscope prosthetic on a mannequin i borrowed from AUT fashion school. I did this so that the audience could properly see the quirky prosthetic i made, as 2D images didn't seem to depict its nature or how one might wear it.

i chose to show 'urban spin' for the main part of the presentation. i chose this one because i believe it shows the greatest amount of learning and growth within, and has elements learned during the first assignments. Also, this topic, with the culmination of construction, exploration and media has engaged and facinated me.

i printed an annotated A1 photograph of an auckland city scene that I shot first during the project -in low quality- then later with a higher quality camera in HD.

i used colour sparingly to emmulate the subdued tones of the city and blacked out some windows to project test footage onto. when i trialed the projector idea i had a fiddly task aligning the playable windows of test footage to the blacked out backdrops. in the end i used photoshop while the projector was going to find the coordinates.

also, i noticed that a lot of the projector light was being soaked up by the a combination of black and laminate. to counter this i cut 'windows' out of white glossy paper and stuck them over the black spaces. this meant that footage is visable and stylish looking in appropriate areas and i'm able to remove the paper shapes so that the poster stands alone, uniterrupted when the lights are on.

the presentation ran smoothly as i was able to answer all questions, talk to the work and qualify choices i made. i believe it went so smoothly as i have been extremely engaged with my work over this semester so have put a lot of thought into each aspect.

it was interesting hearing feedback from Otto and my peers. they have read and appreciated my work in different ways and i enjoyed hearing their responses.
